21,000 youth to be empowered -As President Weah officially launches the USAID Youth Advance Project

The Liberian Leader, President George Manneh Weah says the need to adequately empower the youth in the country remains a top priority of his government.

The President made the assertion on Thursday March 31 2022 when he officially launched USAID Youth Advance Project in the Ball Room of the Monrovia City Corporation.

President Weah emphasized that youth empowerment is the fundamental pillar of the Pro Poor Agenda for Development and Prosperity. He said the launching of project is an important milestone to the transformation of the youth.

The President said, the project is aimed at empowering over 21,000 youth to reduce poverty and help transform their lives for a successful living.

The Liberian Leader intimated that the main focus of his administration is to reduce poverty by economically empowering the youth so they too can become self-employed to contribute to the growth and development of the country.

He then commended the government and people of the United States of America for their commitment to support his government. According to him this project is in alignment with his government youth developmental policy.

 For his part, Youth and Sports Minister D. Zeogar Wilson said the secret behind the astute stewardship accomplishments lies in him and his team understanding of their call to duty, loyalty to the purpose and skilful management and fostering of their relationship with development partners, leveraging on the tacit diplomacy and leadership of President George M. Weah.

Minister Wilson noted that the quality of relation subsisting between the United States of America and the Republic of Liberia as sustained, the Youth Advance Project could not have been possible.
The Youth and Sports Minister averred that the cooperation between the Ministry and USAID is cordial, strong and promising. He disclosed that YAP is a smart strategy to impact 21,000 young men and women that are active in the informal sector.

At the same time, the United State Ambassador to Liberia Michael McCarty said the USAID Youth Advance Program will be a flagship program that will support the government policy on youth development. the youth of Liberia to take advantage of the program.
Ambassador McCarty however noted that the project will immensely help in transforming the lives of youth in the country thereby buttressing the Government of Liberia PAPD Agenda.

The USAID Project is a 22 million youth activities project for youth of Montserrado Bassa and Lofa. The project is implemented by Education Development Center in close collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports will accomplish Basic education and foundational skills strengthened for improved livelihood, employment skills and improved for youth productivity

The President made the assertion on Friday January 14, 2022 when he officially launched the Recovery of Economic Activity for Liberia Informal Sector Employment (REALISE) Project in the Ball Room of the Monrovia City Corporation.

President Weah emphasized that the project is aimed at empowering over 19,000 vulnerable youth to reduce poverty and help transform their lives for a successful living.
The Liberian Leader intimated that the main focus of his administration is to reduce poverty by economically empowering the youth so they too can become self employed to contribute to the growth and development of the country.

He than called on the development partners, including the World Bank and the Embassy of France to help support the REALISE Project which is key in human development and empowerment.

For his part, Youth and Sports Minister D. Zeogar Wilson commended the Government of Liberia, the World Bank, and the Embassy of France for the implementation of the REALISE Project which is providing hope for the poor and vulnerable youth in Liberia.
Minister Wilson cautioned the leaders of the benefiting communities to consider the REALISE Project as their own and must do everything humanly possible to protect it in terms of meeting its objectives.

At the same time, the World Bank Country Manager to Liberia, Khwima Nthara indicated that the project will go a long way in buttressing the Government of Liberia PAPD Agenda.
Mr Nthara however noted that the project will immensely help in transforming the lives of the poor and vulnerable youth in the country.

ssThe REALISE Project is a 10 Million project that is initiated by the Government of Liberia supported by the World Bank which is intended to increase income earning opportunity for the 2021 vulnerable in the informal sector in response to the COVID - 19 crisis in Liberia.
The Project is being implemented by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Liberian Agency for Community Empowerment (Lace) and will target vulnerable informal workers in the country.
