The Ministry of Youth & Sports through the Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is charged with the responsibilities to develop, design, implement, supervise and monitor programs and activities related to Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

Currently, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) provides an important avenue for the acquisition of employment-oriented and life coping skills and attitudes. Consequently, a systematic examination and overhaul of the nation’s TVET system is required to position TVET as an effective response to youth unemployment and underemployment.

The department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) currently runs seven TVET institutions:

I.          The Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTC) provides technical & vocational training in thirteen trades areas

II.         The Business Domestic Occupational Training Center (BDOTC) provides specialized skills training in hospitality management, specifically for underprivileged women and girls

III.        The Klay Agriculture & Vocational Training Center (KAVTC) and Tumutu Agriculture Vocational Training (TAVTC) offers training in general agriculture

IV.        The Youth Agriculture Training Center (YATC) provides training to young people in General Agriculture (animal husbandry, vegetable production, rice production & tree crop production) and few vocational courses (electricity, carpentry, masonry, plumbing & metal works)

V.         The Julijuah Vocational Training Center (JVTC) provides training in tailoring for young people for employment opportunities and self-reliance initiative and

VI.        The Youth-On-The Job Training (YOJT) is the apprenticeship arm of the Ministry which provides skills opportunities for illiterate and semi-literate youth.
