USA-Liberian Track and Field Donates to Athletics Federation
A group of Liberians in the United States of America under the banner “USA Liberian Track and Field Association” have donated several items to the Liberia Athletics Federation for the smooth running of the group.
The association which was represented by Mr. Abraham Mellish presented two (2) used laptop computers and two (2) trophies.
Making the presentation, Mr. Mellish said that with the effort of Youth and Sports Minister, D. Zeogar Wilson, the former Coach of the Liberian National Track and Field Team Mr. Kelvin Soko decided to buttress governments’ effort in the 2020 National County Sports Meet with trophies, but were delayed by a shipping line.
He noted that his organization is willing to work with the Federation, the Ministry and the young people to decentralize track and field in Liberia.
Representing the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Deputy Minister for Sports, Mr. G. Andy Quamie thanked Mr. Mellish and Mr. Soko for the presentation and also for the role they played during the county meet by providing all the trophies and medals for athletics. He said athletics has been out of the county meet for many years.
Minister Quamie also stressed that the ministry will continue to count on USA Liberian Track and Field Association because it is good to give back. He also urged them (Millish and Soko) to talk to likeminded people who sports have helped in their journey to where they are today to help not just athletics, but also other federations.
Receiving the items, Mr. Mulbah Zaza, President of the Liberia Athletics Federation, thanked the USA base organization for the donation and he is also calling on others who have benefited from the federation to follow the good example of USA Liberian Track and Field Association. He recalls that apart from this donation, two other persons have given back to athletics in Liberia.
