Ministry of Youth and Sports Celebrates International  Literacy Day Across   Six  Counties Under The  Theme  “LITERACY FOR PEOPLE, THE PLANET AND PROSPERITY”

PAYNESVILLE, LIBERIA — The Ministry of Youth and Sports will  celebrate International Literacy Day tomorrow September 8, 2026 with decentralized events hosted across six targeted counties: Nimba, Gbarpolu, Margibi, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and Bong.

This year’s celebration is being observed under the International theme, "Literacy for People, the Planet and Prosperity," highlighting the transformative power of education and foundational skill-building in driving sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and economic growth for Liberia’s youth.

The selection of these six counties reflects their outstanding engagement and high participation rates in the Ministry’s ongoing Literacy Program over the years. Thousands of young people in Nimba, Gbarpolu, Margibi, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and Bong have directly benefited from foundational literacy and numeracy initiatives designed to expand employment opportunities, foster civic participation, and empower rural communities.

Through these localized celebrations, the Ministry of Youth and Sports aims to highlight the achievements of young beneficiaries while reaffirming its commitment to expanding educational access to underserved communities across the nation.
