As the Ministry of Youth and Sports advances its bold “paradigm shift” toward decentralizing programs across Liberia, youth representatives in Sinoe County have directly presented their pressing needs to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Cornelia W. Kruah.

During the engagement, the youth outlined several priority areas requiring immediate attention, including: the Reactivation of the Sinoe County Computer Lab

Renovation of the Sinoe County Children’s Playground

Full rehabilitation of the Sinoe County Youth Center and  Decentralization of scholarship opportunities
Reopening of the Sinoe Youth Library

In response, Minister Kruah, who was gowned by the young people, emphasized her strong personal connection to Sinoe, noting that her mother is from the county reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that the county benefits meaningfully from the Ministry’s decentralization agenda.

Addressing the concerns, the Minister disclosed that the Ministry is currently in discussions with the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) to transform youth centers across the country into modern digital innovation hubs.

This initiative is expected to roll out later this year or early next year, bringing technology-driven opportunities closer to young people in counties like Sinoe.

On the renovation of the children’s playground, Minister Kruah clarified that the responsibility falls under the mandate of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and pledged to formally forward the youth’s concerns to the appropriate authorities for action.

Regarding the Youth Center, she revealed that the Ministry’s Asset Team is already engaging the matter. However, she stressed that for the facility to benefit from government support and subsidy, it must be officially turned over to and operated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

On educational opportunities, Minister Kruah announced that Sinoe County will benefit from 100 dedicated scholarship slots for young people to attend government-run universities and TVET institutions outside the county, given the absence of higher learning institutions within Sinoe.

Additionally, she confirmed 43 placements for Sinoe youth under this year’s National Cadet Program.

The Minister used the opportunity to strongly encourage young people of Sinoe to take full advantage of these opportunities, describing them as a pathway to empowerment and long-term development for both individuals and the county at large.
