Youth and Sports Minister Launches Five-Year Strategic Plan (2025–2030)Theme: “Empowering the Youth of Liberia for Global Excellence through Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Sportsmanship"
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu, on October 1, 2025, officially launched the Ministry’s Five-Year Strategic Plan (2025–2030) under the theme: “Empowering the Youth of Liberia for Global Excellence through Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Sportsmanship.”
Minister Bangalu emphasized that the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) serves as a central arm of the Government of Liberia, mandated to promote youth empowerment, skills development, and sports as vital drivers of inclusive national growth. He highlighted that with more than 60% of Liberia’s population between the ages of 15 and 35, the new strategic plan was carefully designed to align with the Government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The plan is anchored on five strategic pillars: Youth Empowerment and Leadership, Skills Development and Economic Inclusion, Sports Development and Sportsmanship, Social Reintegration and Inclusion, and Institutional Strengthening and Coordination.
Minister Bangalu expressed deep appreciation to the Ministry’s development and institutional partners, including the United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRC), UNIDO, MRUYP, LFA, UNFPA, UNDP, LWSC, and NPA, for their unwavering support in advancing the Ministry’s vision and programs.
Also speaking at the event, Civil Service Agency (CSA) Director General, Dr. Josiah Joekai, emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Labor, and the Civil Service Agency.
He noted that qualified Liberians should be given opportunities to serve in key positions across both the public and private sectors, thereby reducing dependency on foreign expertise.
Dr. Joekai commended the Ministry of Youth and Sports for launching its comprehensive strategic work plan, which he described as a major step toward enhancing institutional efficiency and performance. He reaffirmed the CSA’s commitment to working closely with government ministries and agencies to improve the overall well-being and professional development of civil servants in Liberia.
The program was graced by government officials, representatives of development partners, and institutional stakeholders, including the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), National Port Authority (NPA), UNFPA, UNIDO, UNICEF, MRUYP, and the Liberia Football Association (LFA), and among others.
