MYS releases calendar of events of 2019 National Youth Day Celebration

Monrovia, Liberia, October 25, 2019: The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS), in collaboration with youth organizations and the student community of Liberia will Saturday, October 26, begin activities marking celebration of the 50th National Youth Day and the 9th National Youth Conference.
Under the theme: “The Role of the Youth in Maintaining Peace and Democracy Through the Rule of Law”, Deputy Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Samora P. Z. Wolokollie Will serve as keynote speaker.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, D. Zeogar Wilson, outlining the activities, said the events will commence with a cleanup campaign in Monrovia and its environs, involving 500 youth.
According to the Minister, the activities will continue on Sunday, October 27th, with a fascinating football match at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex between Legends of the National Football Team, the Lone Star, and a select squad of the Youth and Student community.
Minister Wilson said President George Manneh Weah will feature for both teams in each half of the game.
Day three, which falls on Monday, the 28th. will witness an array of government officials, various personalities and outstanding organizations making presentations on volunteerism, freedom of speech, the rights and responsibilities of a good young citizen, maintaining Liberia’s peace, and youth civil duties.
The final and official celebration, which takes place on Tuesday, October 29, at the Paynesville City Hall, will witness the launch of the revised National Youth Policy and Action Plan, and also bring together several dignitaries to address the young people on issues of national concern, with President Weah gracing the occasion and making the official proclamation of the day.
The Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), Liberia National Student Union (LINSU), Mano River Union Youth Parliament (MRUYP) Liberian Chapter will play prominent roles during the activities.
