Liberia Hosts Africa Surf Tour Competition
The Liberian Surfing Association, in partnership with the Africa Surfing Confederation with support from the Government of Liberia, hosted a 6-day inaugural Africa Surf tour in the coastal city of Robertsport.
Speaking at the official opening, Youth and Sports Minister, Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu said the Africa Surf Tour hosted by Liberia is a milestone achievement and a win for the country.
Minister Bangalu said the month of May is a winning month for Liberia, he mentioned the Under 20 female National Team's stunning performance in the WAFU Zone A Under-20 tournament in Senegal which he described as remarkable and profound, and the qualification of the Under 17 female National Team to the next stage of the Female Under 17 World Cup qualifier.
The event, held under the theme "Surf to Rise," began on Thursday,
May 23, grace by Government Ministers, including the Deputy and Assistant Ministers of Sports G. Andy Quamie and V. Murvee Gray, and some Lawmakers, and County officials.
This landmark competition brought together about 60 elite surfers from five African countries including Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal, Cape Verb, and host country Liberia, concluded on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
Participants compete to advance to the next face of the competition by showcasing their skills in one of the world's top surfing destinations. Surfing is a surface water sport in which an individual, a surfer, uses a broad to ride on the forward section, or face, of the moving wave of water, which usually carries the surfer towards the shore.
