Ministry of Youth and Sports Launches New MVTC; Announces Free Materials and Uniforms for Students

Monrovia, Liberia – April 2026 — The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced a major reform policy at the Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTC), removing the financial burden of training materials and uniforms for students.

Speaking at the official launch on Friday, Youth and Sports Minister, Atty. Cornelia W. Kruah, described the initiative as a significant step toward repositioning MVTC and strengthening technical and vocational education in Liberia.

She disclosed that the reform has been approved by Joseph N. Boakai and will take immediate effect for an initial period of 12 months.

Under the new policy, all fees associated with training materials and uniforms have been cancelled, easing enrollment barriers for young people. Students who previously paid for uniforms will have those funds credited toward their graduation fees.

Minister Kruah further announced that the Ministry will work to procure a bus for student transportation, while each instructor will receive a monthly transportation allowance of US$100 to improve attendance and operational efficiency.

Delivering the keynote address, Hon. Samuel A. Stevquoah, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Chief of Staff to the President, expressed enthusiasm about engaging with young Liberians committed to acquiring skills. Reflecting on his own challenging educational journey, he praised Cornelia W. Kruah for her dedication and leadership.

“I am really proud of Cornelia. Her passion for young people is unmatched. Recommending her to become the youngest-ever Minister of Youth and Sports was an easy decision,” he stated.

Hon. Stevquoah officially launched the free provision of materials and uniforms at MVTC, describing it as a major milestone in expanding access to technical and vocational education. On behalf of President Boakai, he also pledged the provision of a 64-seater bus to address students’ transportation challenges.

The launch of the reformed MVTC forms part of the Government of Liberia’s broader agenda to remove financial barriers and reposition vocational training as a viable pathway for youth empowerment, skills development, and employment.
