MINISTER KRUAH VISITS TVET CENTERS IN BOMI, VOWS TO REVIVE SIRLEAF’S LEGACY PROJECT
As part of her reform-driven vision aligned with the Government’s ARREST Agenda, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Honorable Atty. Cornelia W. Kruah is intensifying efforts to revitalize technical and vocational education across rural Liberia. Central to this effort is her commitment to reopening the long-dormant Julijuah Vocational Training Centre (JVTC) in Julijuah Town, Bomi County.
The facility is located near the residence of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and was originally established during her administration to equip young people with tailoring skills and serve as a production hub for institutional uniforms. However, since 2017, the center has remained largely inactive, leaving a critical gap in skills development for youth in the area.
During her ongoing nationwide decentralization tour, on Saturday, April 4, 2026, Minister Kruah visited the JVTC and made a firm commitment to restore its operations. The pledge comes amid sustained appeals from local communities and renewed interest from former President Sirleaf, who has consistently advocated for the revival of the center as part of her legacy in youth empowerment.
In a related development, Minister Kruah also advanced a proposal for a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to rehabilitate and modernize the Klay Agriculture Vocational Training Center (KAVTC) in Klay District. The initiative seeks to reposition the facility, also known as the Klay Agriculture Training Center (KATC), as a center of excellence for agricultural skills training and agribusiness development.
The Minister emphasized that meaningful transformation at KAVTC will require strategic collaboration, innovation, and the integration of private sector expertise. She described the center as one of the largest agricultural training institutions in western Liberia and a critical asset under the Ministry’s portfolio.
These engagements underscore the Ministry’s renewed commitment to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) infrastructure nationwide. By restoring key institutions and embracing partnerships, Minister Kruah aims to create sustainable pathways for youth empowerment, employment, and national development.
