MINISTER OF YOUTH & SPORTS VISITS BWI, ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR MARGIBI YOUTH

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Atty. Cornelia W. Kruah, has paid an official visit to the campus of the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) in Kakata, Margibi County, as part of her ongoing Nationwide County Tour.
During the visit, Minister Kruah held a productive engagement with the Principal of BWI, Dr. Nancy Freeman, along with members of her administrative team. The Minister’s delegation included the Deputy Minister for Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET), Laramind S. Nyonton, the Acting Deputy Minister for Youth Development, Alphonso Belle and the Deputy Minister of Spots, G. Andy Quamie.
The Principal of BWI, Dr. Nacy Freeman briefed the Minister on the current status of the institution, outlining key achievements as well as the major challenges confronting the school. She emphasized the need for sustained support to enhance technical and vocational training opportunities for young people.
In response, Minister Kruah reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening youth development across Liberia. She emphasized that her nationwide tour is aimed at rolling out the Ministry’s decentralization agenda, ensuring that youth programs and services are not limited to Monrovia and Montserrado County but are equitably extended to all counties.
The Minister further noted that the tour provides a critical platform to directly engage with young people, listen to their aspirations, and better understand their needs. According to her, these interactions will inform the development of responsive and impactful programs tailored to youth across the country.
As a major highlight of the visit, Minister Kruah announced the provision of 100 scholarship opportunities for young people in Margibi County to pursue studies at any public university in Liberia. The initiative, she said, is part of the Ministry’s broader effort to expand access to education and empower young Liberians through capacity development.
The visit underscores the Ministry’s renewed focus on inclusivity, decentralization, and youth empowerment as key pillars of national development.
