Ministry of Youth and Sports Creating  Pathways for Liberian Athletes

The Ministry of Youth and Sports remains committed to expanding opportunities for young Liberian athletes through sports and education.

The Ministry recently held a productive meeting with Flames Basketball Academy and Coach Tarlouh Gasque to discuss creating sustainable pathways for talented Liberian athletes to access higher education and professional sporting opportunities abroad.

Coach Gasque highlighted the success of her recent collaboration with Flames Basketball Academy, which provided basketball training, mentorship, and talent identification for 32 female basketball playersm She also shared the results of her assessment of 10 female basketball players currently competing in the Liberia Basketball Association (LBA). Following the assessment, two athletes have been offered the opportunity to attend Montgomery College, where Coach Gasque serves as Athletics Director, giving them the opportunity to pursue higher education while continuing their basketball careers.

The meeting also explored expanding this initiative to include female footballers through the development of an academic preparation program. The proposed program will help talented athletes strengthen their academic readiness and improve their eligibility for university scholarships overseas.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports welcomes partnerships that empower young people through sports, education, and leadership development. By working with organizations such as Flames Basketball Academy and international partners like Coach Gasque, we aim to create more opportunities for Liberian athletes to excel both in the classroom and in their respective sports.

Together, we are creating pathways for Liberia's youth through sports particularly for girls and young women by opening doors to education, leadership, and international opportunities.
