Nearly 100 TVET Instructors to Begin International Training Next Month
MONROVIA, LIBERIA

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) has officially assumed the chairmanship of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) of the European Union funded Youth Rising Project, succeeding the Ministry of Education, which served as Chair from January to July 2026.

The transition marks an important milestone in the implementation of one of Liberia's largest investments in technical and vocational education and training (TVET). The six year, EUR 25 million initiative is funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in partnership with the Government of Liberia.

As Chair of the Project Steering Committee, the Ministry of Youth and Sports will provide strategic oversight to ensure that the project remains aligned with national development priorities while expanding opportunities for young Liberians to acquire market relevant technical and vocational skills.

Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to advancing the project's objectives by strengthening youth employment, expanding entrepreneurship opportunities, enhancing institutional capacity, and deepening collaboration with the private sector and development partners.
A major milestone under the project will begin next month when nearly 100 Liberian TVET instructors and teacher candidates depart for specialized training in countries including Kenya and Ghana.

Upon completion of their training, the instructors will return to Liberia and be deployed across vocational training institutions in all fifteen counties to deliver competency based, industry driven instruction that will strengthen the country's skilled workforce.
The Government of Liberia has committed to placing the trained instructors on the national payroll and ensuring their long term retention within the public TVET system.

“The deployment of nearly 100 TVET teachers for international training is a defining moment for Liberia's vocational education system. These professionals will return home equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to transform technical education and prepare thousands of young Liberians for meaningful employment,” Minister Kruah said.
During its tenure as Chair of the Project Steering Committee, the Ministry of Youth and Sports will prioritize effective project coordination, infrastructure development at Phase II TVET institutions, deployment and monitoring of trained instructors, promotion of youth entrepreneurship, implementation of inclusive and gender responsive TVET programmes, operationalization of the Liberia TVET Commission, and stronger public private partnerships.

The Ministry also commended the Ministry of Education for its leadership during the previous chairmanship and expressed appreciation to the European Union, UNIDO, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, the Civil Service Agency, and other partners for their continued support.
The Youth Rising Project is a cornerstone of Liberia's efforts to build a skilled, productive, and competitive workforce by expanding access to quality technical and vocational education throughout the country.
