Arcelor Mittal Donates US$35,000 to Support 15 Counties.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, Arcelor Mittal Liberia donated Thirty-Five Thousand United States Dollars (US$35,000) to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for distribution among the fifteen counties that participated in the just-ended 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet.

The presentation was made on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex, where ArcelorMittal Liberia’s representative, Marcus S. Wleh, Head of External Affairs and Sustainability, highlighted the longstanding partnership between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the company. He noted that the collaboration began between 2010 and 2012 and has remained strong over the years.

Mr. Wleh explained that ArcelorMittal Liberia initially contributed US$35,000, followed by a second contribution of US$15,000, and now a final donation of US$35,000, bringing the company’s total support for the just-ended National County Sports Meet to US$85,000.

He indicated that the funds will be shared among all participating counties, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports determining the distribution formula to ensure equitable support.
Receiving the Check on behalf of  Minister Cornelia W. Kruah,  the Deputy Minister of Administration, Henry B. Yonton, recounted the long-standing relationship between ArcelorMittal and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and ArcelorMittal's continuous support to the National County Sports Meet.

Deputy Minister Yonton then thanked ArcelorMittal for its support and called for stronger collaboration and partnership aimed at supporting sports and talent development in the country.
Speaking on behalf of the County Sports Steering Committee Chairpersons, Abdul D. Kanneh of Bomi County expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Arcelor Mittal Liberia for the timely and generous contribution.

He noted that after the County Meet, many counties are often left with outstanding obligations to vendors and service providers. While acknowledging that the funds may not fully settle those debts, he emphasized that the support will significantly reduce the financial burden on participating counties.
The contribution reflects Arcelor Mittal Liberia’s continued commitment to youth development, sports promotion, and community empowerment across Liberia.
