MYS Convene Technical Meeting for the Revised National Youth Policy & Action Plan.
With a statutory mandate to oversee and direct the affairs of Liberian youth to enable them to be effective and discharge their responsibilities as productive citizens, the Ministry of Youth and Sports today, February 25, 2025, convened a working session on the revised National Youth Policy and Action Plan.
The National Youth Action Plan is a national youth policy document that sets the guidelines that help support young people in a country in terms of goals for education, health, employment, civic participation, and more.
Recapping the progress made so far, Deputy Minister for Youth Development, J. Bryant McGill outlined the conclusion and findings of the regional consultation meetings which identified youth challenges and opportunities, how to incorporate regional perspectives into policy, and also to strengthen collaboration with local and international partners.
According to him, the consultation uncovered a growing demand for vocational training and entrepreneurship support, coupled with digital literacy and access to ICT and youth inclusion in governance and peace-building.
Meanwhile, a Technical Working Group has been established with the mandate of perusing the entire draft policy document, validating the document, adding what is lacking, and making sure the entire document addresses the aspirations of the Liberian youth which is scheduled from March 18-21, 2025 in the city of Robertsports, Grand Cape Mount County.
It may be recalled that the most recent National Youth Policy and Action Plan was validated in 2019 and expired in 2023.
The National Youth Policy is deemed important because of the need for an institutional focal point to ensure effective coordination of and collaboration on youth-related programs and research.
