The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) built Youth Resource Center in Gbarnga City, Bong County, has been dedicated and turned over to youth of the city.
The US$70,000 center contains a multi-purpose building, a multi-purpose playing court, a children playground, and a hand pump.
The one hundred percent government funded project is part of the ministry’s deliverables as spelt out in the national Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS) document.
Deputy Minister for Youth Development Sam E. Hare, Jr., who dedicated and turned over the center recently, said the facility was constructed to provide a space for the young people to meet and discuss youth development issues and engage in recreational activities to enhance their growth.
Mr. Hare disclosed his ministry would provide the center with computers shortly for training purposes.
He thanked the authorities of Bong County for partnering with his ministry to achieve one of its deliverables.
“I extend my thanks and appreciation to the Bong County Educational System for making available the land on which the resource center is built,” Deputy Minister added.
Mr. Hare urged the youth, authorities, and residents of Gbarnga to take care and make good use of the center.
Leading an array of local county officials to receive the keys to the center on behalf of Bong County Superintendent Ranney Jackson, his administrative assistant J. Cammue N. Dormea thanked MYS for the facility describing it a meaningful gift that would help transform the city’s youth into useful citizens.
Also thanking the Ministry of Youth and Sports for a good job was Gbarnga City Mayor Esther Coaline Warbey, who cut the ribbon to open the center.
The center was constructed by the INGO Plan Liberia and Better Society, a local construction company.
Its dedication was part of activities marking celebration of the 40th National Youth Day, and the 2nd National Youth Conference, held in Gbanga from October 26-29.
