Youth and Sports Minister Hon. D. Zeogar Wilson want to expand the National County Sports Meet by blending sports with academic debates.
Speaking to 65 youth and students from 13 counties participating in the ongoing National Debate County Meet, organize by “Youth for Change” who visited him June 4, 2019 at his office, stressed the need of working with the organization to make the national debate part of future county meets.
He said by adding this component will help expose the youth and also enable them know and interact with their law makers and other County officials. “If Nimba is playing Grand Gedeh, the law makers and fans will come to see the debate, that is the kind of new dynamism we want to bring to the County Meet, we don’t want to come and only play soccer” he maintain.
The MYS Boss urged them to also network, because it is part of the debate, it links you with lot of opportunities.
Making comment, student Waillett Mars representing Montserrado County thanked Minister Wilson for supporting this initiative which is gear towards molding the minds of young people. She added that he represents a true leader by identifying with every youthful activity.
Representing” Youth for Change” its Executive Director Alex Devine Jr. commended Minister Wilson for being a people center person who always follow-up on activities and programs carry out by his organization, so by bring the competition to Monrovia he should be the first they should visit.
Mr. Devine recalled that he had been very passionate about debate amongst high school students; by 2015 he decided to help redirect the minds of youth from what is known as “Super Friday” by organizing debates with number of schools.
Mr. Devine noted that his work has paid off by achieving the minimization of Super Friday to a greater extend and also discovering great and potential leaders that now studying abroad.
