In a wake of creating better practice pitch, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Liberia Football Association (LFA) turning over the practice pitch which is currently located on 6.5 acres of land between the Liberia-China WUSHU School and the complex’s basketball gymnasium at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex (SKD) in Paynesville City for 25 years.

The agreement which came into effect on June 1, 2019, mandates the Liberia Football Association (LFA) to control the field up to May 31, 2044.

According to the agreement, the pitch will be fenced and reshaped into a standard mini stadium for training purposes.

Turning over the facility officially, the Ministry of Youth and Sports boss Hon. D. Zeogar Wilson, who signed the document stated that the Government of Liberia and LFA have reached the agreement in a wake of FIFA, CAF and WAFU investing in modernizing the ground.

Additionally, Minister D. Zeogar Wilson lauded the current LFA leadership for its farsightedness towards developing Liberia’s football facilities which would improve the standard of the game and motivate the younger footballers locally.

Minister Wilson also expressed that he wished to see LFA take over the SKD Sports Complex and all other football facilities in the country shortly.

He pointed out the lease is 99.9% free, but stressed that as the Minister with the mandate to direct affairs of the Liberian youth to become useful citizens and to direct all programs and activities relating to sports, he is keen to see the facility develop to international standard for the benefit of the country’s young athletes.

Liberia Football Association (LFA) president Mustapha I. Raji, signed the MOU on behalf of his entity, witnessed at the time by visiting FIFA Senior Development Manager for Member Association Division Solomon Mudege.

It can be recalled that former Youth and Sports Minister Etmonia David Tarpeh and former LFA President Musa Hassan Bility signed a similar MOU for management of the Antoinette Tubman Stadium and all national football teams by LFA.
